Confidential Private Social Club
Located in San Francisco’s historic Ferry Building, Shack-15 is a social gathering space for entrepreneurs and innovators alike. This creative typology sitting atop rows of artisanal shops is a cornucopia of shared spaces that brings old and new San Francisco under one roof. The hospitality driven lighting approach to co-working spaces produces a warm and inviting atmosphere that responds to the historically built environment while also adhering to the user demands of a modern incubator.
The lighting design of the lobby embraces the minimalistic architecture with concealed integrated linear lighting and pinhole downlights allowing the pristine simplistic glow of the plaster walls to become the elevating element of the reception.
Behind the monolithic mass of the front is a generous use of open space illuminated solely with an all-custom light sculpture with approximately 300 individually tunable LED bulbs. The sculpture is a creative design solution to light the flexibility demands of the expansive main hall. It adopts form from the historical arches of the building and occupies the monumental scale of the space without taking away from the surrounding vistas and architectural elements. This careful integration of a contemporary design element to its historically existing context becomes a bright new addition to the iconic landmark.
